A cosy-pub walk of about 3 km along the High Street and round the castle, with up to eight pubs, from the Lansdown Arms by the station to the Black Horse at the Western Road end, and back along the High Street. Pick two or three: there are no long climbs and each stop is a few minutes from the last, so it suits short legs and a dog who likes a rest by the fire.

The ground

Streets and pavements. On the map's elevation data the line climbs about 70 metres in all, mostly the High Street and Station Street. Our sheet says the Royal Oak, Rights of Man, the Brewers Arms and the Lewes Arms are not step-free. Kerbs, cobbles, narrow pavements and crossings have not been checked on the ground.

The line on the map

Our own line, routed on OpenStreetMap streets between the stops, with BRouter's trekking profile. Not paced out on the ground.

The route is from Lewes Dogs: read it at the source before you go (Stops and dog facts from the Lewes Dogs sheet as checked 30 Sep to 5 Oct 2026. Sights and the line from OpenStreetMap, read 7 Oct 2026.). The line on the map is drawn by Lewes Dogs on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL). With a dog? Lewes Dogs has this walk, with the rules and the livestock.
