Stations on the way
Lewes, Southease
Time
About 5 hours, by our reckoning

One of the leaflet's two suggested circuits: from the Tourist Information Centre down past the station and the Priory to the Swan Inn, up the ancient Juggs Road past Ashcombe Windmill to the South Downs Way on the Kingston ridge, south along the ridge to Southease, then either a train back from Southease or the riverside path to Lewes through the Railway Land. The leaflet gives km (19 km in total walking back).

The ground

Juggs Road rises out of Southover and crosses the A27 on a high bridge, then becomes an unsurfaced track; a road to cross at the edge of Kingston; a steep slope up to the South Downs Way; the Ouse riverside path is easy walking and closed to cyclists and horse riders.

Livestock

The leaflet mentions no livestock on these routes.

The line on the map

Drawn with the riverside walk back to Lewes rather than the train from Southease.

The route is from Lewes Town Partnership, 'Lewes Walks: Town and Downs' map (downs text Tim Locke): read it at the source before you go (2013 (copyright LTP 2013; artwork dated 18 October 2013)). The line on the map is drawn by Lewes Dogs on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL). With a dog? Lewes Dogs has this walk, with the rules and the livestock.
