A loop of about 2.6 km round the middle of Lewes from the station: up Station Street to the Town Hall, the Barbican Gate of the castle and Bull House on the High Street, back along it to the Market Tower, down to Cliffe Bridge, and home by Friars Walk. A short stroll on pavements, a good one for short legs and for dogs who like a town to sniff.

The ground

Streets and pavements round the middle of Lewes. On the map's elevation data the line climbs about 50 metres in total: the High Street rises from the river towards the castle, and Station Street is the steep way up from the station. Kerbs, steps, cobbles, narrow pavements and crossings have not been checked on the ground. Keere Street's cobbles are not on the line.

The line on the map

Our own line, routed on OpenStreetMap streets between the stops, with BRouter's trekking profile. Not paced out on the ground.

The route is from Lewes Dogs: read it at the source before you go (Stops and dog facts from the Lewes Dogs sheet as checked 30 Sep to 5 Oct 2026. Sights and the line from OpenStreetMap, read 7 Oct 2026.). The line on the map is drawn by Lewes Dogs on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL). With a dog? Lewes Dogs has this walk, with the rules and the livestock.
