Ringmer, Mount Caburn and Glynde
12 km (7.5 miles) · Circular
- Starts
- Ringmer
- Time
- About 3 hours, by our reckoning
A circular walk south from the village onto the Downs, to Mount Caburn, a nature reserve with a hill fort on top and wide views over the South Downs, and down to Glynde, where Glynde Place is a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house beside an 18th-century church. Ringmer itself has a 13th-century church, and on Mill Plain the post of a windmill that worked until 1921 was left standing when the mill fell in 1925. Glynde has a station on the line from Lewes, if you'd rather start there.

The line on the map
The source names the places, not the paths, so the line and its direction are ours: out past Glyndebourne to Glynde, up onto Caburn, and down to the Glynde road and back into the village, which shares a stretch of road with the way out. Check the source's own map before you go.
The route is from GPS Cycle and Walking Routes: read it at the source before you go (undated, read 6 November 2026). The line on the map is drawn by What's On Lewes on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL), and nobody from the site has walked it yet.
