Seaford: the Martello Tower and Splash Point
3.2 km (2 miles) · Circular
- Starts
- Seaford station
- Stations on the way
- Seaford
- Time
- 1 hour
Our own short loop from Seaford station down to the sea at the Martello Tower, built in 1808 against a feared Napoleonic invasion and now Seaford Museum, then east along the Esplanade to Splash Point, where the beach meets the chalk cliffs of Seaford Head and the RSPB has a viewing point for the kittiwakes. Back past Frankie's Beach Café and up through the town. Toilets on the promenade by the museum.
The ground
Flat pavements and the promenade. The beach below is steep shingle, and the tide runs along the shore; chalk falls from Seaford Head beyond Splash Point, so keep off the beach under the cliffs.
Livestock
None.
The line on the map
Our own loop on Seaford's streets and the Esplanade, kept east of West View (the summer ban runs west from there). Not paced out on the ground.
The route is from Lewes Dogs. The dog rules are Lewes District Council's byelaw, as Seaford Town Council describes it: read it at the source before you go (Byelaw details from our beaches research (3-5 Oct 2026) and Seaford Town Council (search extracts, 27 Oct 2026). The line from OpenStreetMap, read 27 Oct 2026.). The line on the map is drawn by Lewes Dogs on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL). With a dog? Lewes Dogs has this walk, with the rules and the livestock.
