One way along the cliff tops from Seaford to Beachy Head: the Martello Tower, Seaford Head, over the Cuckmere, the Seven Sisters, Birling Gap and Belle Tout lighthouse, then on to Beachy Head and the bus stops for the way back. The longest walk on this list.

The ground

Rated moderate by the source, which says it is unsuitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. It climbs 200 m and descends 71 m, 160 m at the highest. The source says to reverse the route if the wind blows from the east, and calls Beachy Head dramatically high and not for the faint-hearted.

The line on the map

Drawn through the source's own twelve grid references (each good to 100 m), in its order. Drawn on the nearest paths, the line measures about 22 km against the source's 18.1 km, so treat the source's figure as the walk's length and the line as a guide to where it goes.

The route is from Car Free Walks (walk 255, "The best of the East Sussex Coast", by GaryShipp): read it at the source before you go (created 5 October 2008, no update date shown, read 7 November 2026). The line on the map is drawn by What's On Lewes on OpenStreetMap data (ODbL), and nobody from the site has walked it yet.
